I Knew Who I was Once, by Brian Routh
Brian made this yesterday and told me this was inspired in part by my conversations with him regarding my postgraduate research on memory illusions and nostalgia and recent battles I’ve had with grief and depression.

South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung has launched their first-ever ‘connected camera’, known as the Samsung Galaxy Camera and I will make a bold prediction that the the future of professional digital photography will find it’s origins in the concept of this amateur camera. This camera is essentially a computer with a lens loaded with Android 4.1 (Jellybean) a 4.8 inch HD Super Clear LCD touchscreen display of 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 1.4GHz processor, 16MP camera with 21x optical zoom, 8GB internal memory, micro SD card supporting up to 64GB expandable memory, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
This means that, along with the impressive built-in interface of the camera that allows users to connect and share images to all their social medias and with the devices of their friends, a user can now download specialty camera apps that will enable them to customise their photo experience. I can see that it will be only a short time before enthusiasts are writing their own apps and uploading them to pro-cameras designed with the same connectivity.

“The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots is a new international campaign by non-governmental organizations calling for a pre-emptive ban on fully autonomous weapons. These are future weapons with full autonomy that would be able to choose and fire on targets without any human intervention.”

AlphabeNt: Experiments from A–Z presents the 26 characters of the Latin alphabet as you haven’t seen them before: broken, distorted and aesthetically corrupted using digitally destructive techniques not usually found in the designers handbook. Co-authors Drew Taylor and Daniel Purvis created the characters using audio editing software such as Audacity, using standard text editors, by overloading flatbed document scanners, shaking iPhones and kicking computer tables.
It’s a visual feast that makes use of digital printing and specialist paper stocks to best effect. AlphabeNt just launched through new South Australian publishing house, Stolen Projects, and the book is available here. A well-glitched launch video has also been released, featuring a remix of the AlphabeNt book characters by British glitch artist, Antonio Roberts.

“The idea of aerial photography is not new, but the idea of the Sky View Camera certainly is. I love the cosmic beauty in design, almost like a star or whimsical flower. Details are sketchy, but we do know that it can take pics from mid-air and when placed on a surface. People are fascinated with pictures of them from above, so one of these days the concept will see light. Whether it is as enigmatic as the Sky View, remains to be seen.”

Okay here’s cute & interesting Chihuahua story #1.
Before we adopted H.d. Wells we researched the Chihuahua breed to try to find out more, personality traits, health issues, since he was the first tiny dog I’ve ever had. (I made friends with the Fennec Foxes at the St. Louis Zoo, but another story. )
We talked to many Chihuahua owners as well as skimmed numerous scholarly books such as the definitive , “Chihuahua for Dummies”! Really good. Anyway, one observation about the dogs that was repeated enough for me to remember was that Chihuahua’s recognise each other when they are near by. When I read this I thought this is just pure-bred elitist nonsense, all dogs want to SEE (or really smell) each other. They all get excited when they see another dog.
Little did I know this did not mean when they just see each other face to face.
This meant.. they KNOW when another Chihuahua is around even when they haven’t seen each other. In fact they can be blocks from each other and they somehow [[[know]]]] another chihuahua is around.
We witnessed this yesterday once again, we were two blocks away and another chihuahua was in the area. A hedge which we could easily see over was blocking the two tiny chihuahua’s from seeing each other but at the same moment they both knew they were close to each other somehow. The other one suddenly refused to walk so ours could catch up, and H.d.Wells picked up his pace as if he knew the other one was waiting for him around the bend.
Smell you say? In any other dog I would say yes. Because Chihuahua’s purportedly have a lousy sense of smell, I don’t think it is smell. Their sense of smell is so poor it is the reason they are such fussy eaters, they can’t smell their food unless it’s really strong.
But their hearing is another matter.
Dogs hear much higher frequency sounds than humans,as a result they have a different acoustic perception of the world. Dogs have the ability to perceive the height and depth of the sounds that they hear.
It is also speculated that Chihuahua’s are distantly related to the Fennec Fox which has exceptional hearing.
So given these two attributes perhaps Chihuahuas can hear that there is another dog their size. Could be, but they do not have the same reaction to Yorkies or other dogs the same size as them.
I’m stumped, but It is amazing to witness every time.
